This watercolor is nearing completion. I am enjoying the relationship of water to reflection. I need to let it "rest" before I make final decisions.
I'm still having difficulty with Winsor and Newton pigments. I'm convinced the company has changed the binder. Something is different.
Have other fellow watercolorists noticed any change in W&N pigments? If so, please let me know.

Like this one a lot. Just ordered three new tubes of paint and will pay attention to it...

Sorry, guess Sandy logged onto my laptop...it is me, Jane
Happy New Year, Carol!
I have not noticed any difference with W & N yet - perhaps it is with certain colors? I, too, will be paying more attention to them from now on, and will let you know if I notice any difference...
Wishing you and your family a wonderful 2009.
I just wanted to say that I love how this painting is working itself out - love the ripples. The reflections look as though they are vibrating.
jane... thanks for checking in... let me know how the pigments go for you.. and if you notice any changes. best for happy new year! carol
Joanne!
Happy new Year to you too!
let me know... about the W&N paint. I am having trouble with Pussian Blue, and French Ultra Blue, and Aureolin... but.. basically.. i think they've changed the binder. let me know what you think!

Hi Angela,
Thank you so much for coming to the blog and leaving a supportive comment. i appreciate it! The painting is 'resting' now... so that i can gain some perspective on it -- before i figure out the final finishing touches. as soon as i finish it .. i will post it here. stay tuned..and Happy New Year! best.
Have you contacted W&N and spoken to a rep. maybe they can shed light on the dilemma? Considering your stunning paintings which do more then justice to their paints it is worth asking.
I am a huge fan of your work and have been for years. I had never seen watercolors used with such brilliant intensity until I saw your paintings. I live in L.A. so I have never had a chance to see them in real life, have you ever thought about making a trip to the west coast ;)
Happy New Year, and good wishes to you and your family.
happy new year marianna! your little girl looks so cute!
i have been in touch with W&N chemists. i gave them my test results.. and they checked the pigments. they came back with a report of NO change in their chemistry -- so --it's my word against theirs. they seemed unwilling to validate my concerns.
i've heard through the grapevine.. that they make their pigments in China now.. and quality control can be an issue.
i've had to switch some of my pigments to other brands...which has been a challenge.
anyway, thanks for the concern.... i will stick with them... unless/until i find other pigments with results that are conducive to my way of working.
thank you for following my work -- and for your compliments. i appreicate your support!
also.. i hope to show you my work in person some day.
i've had a few trips to the west coast.. and next time i'm in LA -- i will give you a call.
email me your phone and such.. and we will get together!
