Italy show

The week is accomplishing the last of the 'little ones' for the Italian exhibition.

I am having a good time --- thinking about imagery that will broaden the scope of the show.

I showed the work yesterday ...to the friend that I went to Italy with. It was so fun to watch her reaction to the work.

She like many pieces...and had an emotional attachment to the complete exhibition.

I am getting excited to finish the show.

Still waiting for two large panels to arrive--- that will basically complete the statement.

I will have a total of about 70 pieces to choose from. That sounds like a lot-- but there are many small ones that will make multiple statements. It should be an interesting show to hang!

italy italy italy......

So there are a few more little ones to paint. I'm trying to make record time...so that when the larger panels arrive--- I will have ample time to finish them.

I've show the exhibition a few times this past week -- it seems like most like the work.

The telling time will come though... when the work is delivered to Cedarhurst.

!!

The top panel is of the murals on the inside of the dome at the Duomo. There is a curved and bird's eye perspective to the drawing. The murals remind me of Michelangelo... and I'm not sure who the actual artist is. [will have to look that up!]

The next panel is of a dinner table in the evening. We had a beautiful dinner party on the outskirts of Lucca during one summer evening. The whole dinner was magical. I just slightly ghosted in the painting... there is much more to do!

Italy

Here are three more paintings from the Italy show.

They are small scale.. and a changing palette. I am thinking about keeping the palette similar blues and greys for a few of these.

I have begun using more matte colors-- that work well on the panel. The matte finish makes the paintings a bit more rich in depth and less surface. They require less spraying of additional colors and glazing.

They are muted in tone...and less brilliant -- but that pleases me.

MORE Italy... Acryics

It was a busy week this week... a visiting artist -- GINNY HERZOG, deadlines, and a birthday.

Needless to say.. I didn't get a whole lot done... but I did manage to finish these three acrylics.

The Sunfower, the Sunburst, and the Church in Florence. The smaller acrylics will be paired with the larger ones to flesh out the show.

I now have the weekend to devote to painting--- and hopefully get a good start on 3 more!

Italy Marches On

I had a few days last week to work on the Italy show. I started 3 new ones... only finishing one.

The other two will be worked on this week -- and hopefully completed.

Here is an installation photo of the 3.... with the middle one finished.

I am staring down the barrel of finishing the collection. I need to pull it all together by the end of OCT -- and move on the the GLADES.

THe Show continues

The work in the studio has slowed a bit.... I am pulled in too many directions!

Yikes!!! with teaching... preparing for show... trying to work on book...etc etc...

There didn't seem to be much focus the past week.

The top digital is a painting from yesterday. It's a little new stand in Florence... lit up at night like a firefly.

I will let it sit for a while.. until I know where I want to take it.

I presented my Italian Series to a few friends/clients the other night-- it was a great time to get out the exhibition and see the total effort.

This allowed the opportunity to see where I need to direct my efforts in finishing up the show.

I found a lot of holes in imagery--- more painting!

I tried one Italian landscape in a heavy gold frame... looks good to me!

The last digital is of a trio of paintings that harmonize together.

I think many of the pieces are inter mixable.... they all seem to "hang" together. When you juxtapose them... they bring out many different sentences.

CIAO!

Italy --

I had a good week painting the new acrylic of Italy.

I took my time... allowing each step to be resolved. I wasn't rushed.

In fact, there was a few days between passages -- allowing things to completely dry.

I then spent a whole day on the sky! This allowed for a velvety feel in the distance. There is a soft atmosphere to the horizon line.

This doesn't happen often in my acrylics.

I used Unbleached Titanium White. I really like it--- it has an oatmeal feel. All the blended colors look antiquated and rustic. Perfect for Italy!
