Gulf Disaster -- watercolor

This is the first painting of a long line of new imagery.

The BP Gulf oil spill disaster is a theme that I plan to explore -- along with my Everglades Series.

I hope and pray there isn't more damage --- because I've seen enough already!

This watercolor launches my work about what's happened to the wildlife, the habitat, the coast, the marshes, and the biodiversity in the region.

I spent 5 years of my childhood in Biloxi MS -- and feel like I have a sincere and genuine connection to the region.

I'll be watching your new series, Carol. I hope more artists who are in the area do this - document what's happening.

This is a powerful painting, bringing the effects of the oil spill down to a very personal level. It will take your color choices in a new direction, as well. I look forward to seeing what you do with this series.

What a disaster Carol!! Newspapers speak about it in France a lot.
It is a real mortar. All these oily animals represent a terrible show. In my region in France (Brittany), we knew several disasters of this kind with tankers. Last "Erika" made enormous damages. Your black pelicans are magnificent in spite of the sadness.

joel... i hope i get to some of the work later this year!

Sherry... i too think it will be difficult to paint this imagery... and it WILL change my palette!

Olliva.... it is a tragedy unfolding in front of our eyes... heartbreaking. i will do as many paintings as possible... thank you for being concerned... all the way over in France!
