Everglades~!

I am putting the Italian Series on hold... and heading off to the Everglades National Park. I have the Artist-in-Residency to experience!

It's fun, scary, and an adventure. I've never done anything like this before-- so don't know what to expect.

But I am GAME!

My quarters in the Park are right down the road from the ALLIGATOR FARM! woo hoo! I see many good paintings ahead!

I am armed with my camera, watercolors, bike, snorkel and mask. I hope to walk, hike, swim, snorkel, canoe, boat, air boat, and drive my way through the Glades for the better part of the month in hopes of getting enough information to do a compelling visual exploration of the fragile oasis known as the Everglades!

Please come back here to see and read all that I discover.

There won't be any internet in the Park -- but I will find connection every few days when I go to Homestead.

Enjoy!

Final Versions

Here are the final versions of the last two paintings from Italy that I completed this week.

They are fine and ready to go. I like them ... although I struggled a bit too much on the umbrella.

The street scene came rather effortlessly... but that's a rarity in the studio.

Enjoy!

Italy

I slammed out another painting yesterday-- to get one more done before I leave for FLORIDA and the EVERGLADES later this week.

It's NOT done -- but the composition and passageway are developing nicely.

The smaller paintings below make a nice wall -- and I will leave them in the studio window for view this next month.

Delivery of Artwork

Today I delivered a large watercolor -- Marriage-- to a favorite client. She had also purchased two portraits of her kids last summer which were installed.

I was thrilled to see the portraits -- and captured them here.

The painting of Marriage will hang in her stairwell.

Thank you Holly!

6 NORTH COFFEE

Here is the installation shot of STATE FAIR PIG at 6 NORTH COFFEE. I love this painting... and have been waiting to frame and show it for months! But, for some reason... I have been putting it off-- again and again ... until today.

I framed and installed it at my favorite coffee house... 6 NORTH. Can't wait to hear how6 people respond to it. It's an absolutely disarmingly bold pig... and brings a smile to me-- every time I see it.

The watercolor swimmer below is a reworked piece. I am digging working in the basement studio of my new home-- and the damp floor makes the washes dry to my liking-- slow and brilliant.

Now that the painting has been reworked--- I absolutely adore the turn of palette! SO dark and mysterious ... cut in with Opera Pink.
Right on~!

Happy Camper

Hudson came by the studio today ... to pick up his rooster. It was a lovely watercolor that I did last week.

He was pleased.. and now it adds to his collection of pig and cow that I painted a few years back.

Thank you Hudson!

Italy small ones

Italy continues .... I worked on these two paintings... and feel that progress was made on one..and break through was made on another.

The painting below will be completed on Friday-- after I work some more on the background and wall.

The upper umbrella painting is mostly finished -- except for some tweaking and fine tuning.

I like the palette of both-- and they really do bring a different blend to the Italian show.

I have only one more 10" h x 10" w painting to do, and then on to a couple of larger panels.

Italy again

Am trying my best to finish the last of the paintings before leaving next week to go to FLA.

I started the top piece.. and worked more on the bottom piece.

Neither is done-- but there is progress!

That's all I ask for.

In between, I finished two watercolors-- photographed them, framed one, matted, packaged two for shipping.

So.. there's always TOO much to do in the studio!

But, i am hopeful about these Italy paintings.. and ask you to come back again to see them finished.

ITALY - acrylic!

I finished two more paintings yesterday--- and added them to the sequence of 10" x 10" paintings.
The installation photo gives an idea of scale.

The smaller format develops quickly -- and has a freer look than the larger pieces.

I will give more time next week to the last 20" x 20" paintings.

I feel as though the show is almost done. We shall see. Every time I think I've concluded -- I find another image from Italy that I want to paint!

But... I suspect when I get to the Everglades-- there will be new things to paint that compel me in a different direction.

Enjoy!

This installation photo shows scale and presentation of the Italian Series.

It's almost finished -- more still to be painted -- but more than ever I feel confident about the show!

Please revisit next week to see new additions.

i will have two more weeks in April to paint-- then I'm off to EVERGLADES for gathering information for next body of work!

Italy- Palm Tree

So.. I worked all day on the palm... I can't say that it's totally done--- but..I can say.. that I tried real hard!

In the end-- I feel there's more to do-- to bring it to conclusion.

I developed many areas that I'm pleased with -- but overall... it need some resolution on the right.

I did start two more little paintings-- and will hopefully be finished with those after the weekend.

Italy

I am on pins-n-needles about finishing this show. I have much to do.. and so few days to accomplish.

I finished the "sleeping dog" painting... which I like very much. I thought working on the palm would be a breeze... but quite the contrary.

It's been a bear... and not at all working the way I need it to. So... Wed is another day to keep at it.

Your thoughts?

Italy- acrylic- Rounding the Corner of Completion

One small painting was begun today. A sleeping dog... in a Florence alley. I will work on it Monday- to finish.

I spent most of the day -- working on the bicycle painting. I developed a lot of the nuance -- the wall in particular.

I have high hopes for the sleeping dog-- and the palm tree in the cemetery painting I just begun.

Italy -- Two in Scale

Just a studio installation photo of two pieces for my show. They are both 20" h x 20" w.. a pair.

One is more finished than the other. I am still working on the bike scape... making it deeper with my texture.

All in all.. the show is coming together.. and rounding the corner to being finished.~

WALL BALL!!

WALL BALL was a fantastic event this year. There were 50 artists creating work during the 5 hour party.

Music, food, fun.. for all.

I spent my time working on the large canvas of Italy.

It ended up being auctioned to Sarah Bruno -- who won the bid at the end of the evening.

All money goes to Children's Art Program in Tower Grove Park.
A good time was had by ALL!

WALL BALL rocks!
