Cold Day- Acrylic

Here's to working on the acrylic of the swamp! i like the steps taken today... painting/repainting the water to pull it together. in fact, i really like the direction this painting is going now.

there's room for more work -- but... the richness and fullness are now back. The inky reflection -- is filled with depth and texture... greens and earth tones...

It really pays to stay with your work-- even when you feel like moving on.

new swamp watercolor

here's about two day's worth of painting.... i LOVE the swamp! especially in the winter... when it's REAL cold outside my studio. i imagine all the warmth and humidity.. and pungent smells of heat and moisture.

so.. here's to the swamp!

on a side note... i found an old tube of WINSOR NEWTON Indigo [before 2000] and tried it in the background water. it is exactly the right binder that i'm looking for! now.. i have to find a suitable brand to replace W/N.

i wish i could document and visualize the nuances and changes that are frustrating me -- and convince W/N technicians to return to their old formulation!

January 4 Show ready to go!

Today -- the show for EAST CENTRAL COLLEGE -- was wrapped, packaged, and stacked -- ready to go~

delivery date is WED.... what a great exhibition this will be!

largely figurative watercolors--- mostly medium to small scale.

i will be driving the work there... and see the space myself.

the opening is January 23rd -- please come if you are in the area.



Also i did some work on the 'reflection" painting -- acrylic on paper.

It still has a way to go .... but.. working the dark passages was my effort today.
I'll rework the water tomorrow~

Finishing Touches

I spent yesterday putting finishing touches on these 4 watercolors- 2 large, 2 small.
I frequently do this -- wait till a 'free' day in the studio to finalize work.
The space in time allows me to focus with perspective and critical eye.

When I work a painting -- I develop an 'emotional attachment" during the painting process. This is sometimes hard to conquer. So, I've learned to never finish things all at once, but allow for some time to pass before final resolution.

This has served me well -- over time... giving the paintings the necessary punch they need in the end.

Make sense?

There are always "unfinished" works in the studio -- waiting to be resolved. This always gives me work on any given day.

Hit the Road- Ready to go

i'm having a small exhibition at East Central College in Fulton, MO next week. it will hang for a month. i framed up these two paintings to include.
