Big Blue- Iris Watercolor

Big Blue iris watercolor has found a home. I am happy to say -- that 2 of the 3 monumental iris paintings I did last year have found placement.

It is a wonderful to have them move on to be my "ambassadors."

I love to see them appreciated!

This painting is currently getting framed- so I will post the final presentation later.

Oldies but Goodies

I had the opportunity to see some older work in a client's home this weekend. Most of it I hadn't seen for years!

It was gratifying to see the images... and sometimes I think I was a BETTER painter way back when!

So.. here they are.
I will add more images later.

Everglades~!

I am putting the Italian Series on hold... and heading off to the Everglades National Park. I have the Artist-in-Residency to experience!

It's fun, scary, and an adventure. I've never done anything like this before-- so don't know what to expect.

But I am GAME!

My quarters in the Park are right down the road from the ALLIGATOR FARM! woo hoo! I see many good paintings ahead!

I am armed with my camera, watercolors, bike, snorkel and mask. I hope to walk, hike, swim, snorkel, canoe, boat, air boat, and drive my way through the Glades for the better part of the month in hopes of getting enough information to do a compelling visual exploration of the fragile oasis known as the Everglades!

Please come back here to see and read all that I discover.

There won't be any internet in the Park -- but I will find connection every few days when I go to Homestead.

Enjoy!

Recent Watercolor-- PigsRus

Here is the PIG! recent watercolor painting... C O M P L E T E L Y out of the box for me.... but...

i believe that is healthy and good for artists to do things out-of-the-box at times....

I went to the ILLINOIS STATE FAIR in Springfield, IL this summer.. and fell in love with this PIG!

so.... felt compelled to paint him. First.. the small maquette [posted on www.watercolor300.blogspot.com]

and then.. gradually this week.. the larger version of the pig began to emerge.

so far.. i LOVE it! it says everything i wanted to say.. and more.

it's big.. it's bawdy.. it's in-your-face fun... so totally unscripted and energizing to paint.

DECOR Magazine- Norway

DECOR Magazine in Norway published a nice article on my work this month. The magazine is a wonderful compilation of art and artists at work.

Margrete Tennfjord, Editor of DECOR Magasinet did a tremendous job with the layout and photoshopping the images. The paintings are vivid and the presentation is superb. The text is in Norwegian -- but some English too.

I am so happy to have been included- Thank you Margrete.

Pick up a copy if you live in NORWAY!

nocturne

this watercolor.. on unknown paper.. has been slightly a challenge for me. there were many times i felt like giving up.. and actually did.......
but... another day.. and another try and bringing it to conclusion.

at the end.. i used a scrub sponge.. and wiped out many areas to lighten the darks and add more shimmer and sparkle.

i can't say that it's finished.. but i can say.. that it's posted here.. and tomorrow.. perhaps.. will bring on another day's efforts.

second to the last stage -- Goliath Iris watercolor

i photographed this second-to-last stage of this enormous watercolor -- there's one final day of painting on it .. that needs to be documented.

it was fun to go back and rework this image..and pull together a more solid painting. the final painting has a bit more drama... and value.

there's a simple freer abandon or creativity .. on working a previously-resolved painting. with the fresher eyes and perspective... i tend to make bolder and less calculating decisions. it's as though i've been given 'free reign' over the image.. and don't have to have boundaries!

tomorrow.. i will photo the last stage and post it here.
