Great OPEN STUDIO!

What a great surprise the OPEN STUDIO was on the CAM CITY WIDE OPEN STUDIO tour!

I had a ton of people... lots of friends and clients... and new faces.  The neighborhood was supportive-- with many residents coming to visit.

I was overwhelmed when the bus from the Contemporary Art Museum stopped by with 30 people!
What a rush of humanity!

Lovely day-- not too hot....  plenty of camaraderie and conversation.
The weather cooperated - it was not a triple-digit day.

I even made a few sales.  [see above]

Precious Daisy showed up with her Mom-- Amy.... and the GIRLS NIGHT OUT group too.

Thank you to everyone who came to support me.  I REALLY appreciate your visit--- and look forward to seeing everyone again real soon!

New Watercolors

I have been so busy getting ready to teach in France-- and preparing demos etc... that I hardly have time to paint.

Additionally-- I have an OPEN STUDIO this Saturday-- so today was spent getting the place ready.
Painting, patching, scrubbing, cleaning, organizing, etc.

The whole place is spotless--- and ready for the day!

We hung paintings-- that will show a variety of works.   There will be many more to choose from.

I will be showing new work, works in progress, and finished pieces.

Some paintings from The Italian Suite will aslo be on display.

There will be another 70 studios throughout the city open... so ya'll come!

Everyone is invited.
Please come!

Spring Bounty!

I sold the three paintings here this weekend.  The lovely SPRING BOUNTY will be hanging with the two smaller IRIS to make a statement.

I couldn't be happier!

So happy that art is being collected.  It's especially important for an artist!

I am always honored when someone likes my work enough to feature it in their home.

Thank you Chris and Michael!  Your support means so much to me!

Underwater Swim

A watercolor from an older series was delivered back to my studio this week.  It was fun for me to see what I had done a few years before.   The underwater swimmer is hidden in this piece--- and the abstract bloom almost takes over.  [There is a slight reflection on the painting due to the glass]

I will post others from this series in the next few days.

SIX NORTH COFFEE COMPANY

The grand opening of SIX NORTH COFFEE is today! They are located on Clayton Road -- just west of HWY 141. It is a beautiful coffee shop/restaurant -- run by the ALTRUDO family. It is an independent, family-owned coffee experience~

I am thrilled and honored to be exhibiting my work there on an ongoing basis.

You can see a selection of THE ITALIAN SERIES today. Those paintings will be hanging throughout the summer and are available for purchase.

Maria Altrudo and her family has shown my work in their two locations for over 6 years -- and wonderful partnership of art and coffee!

Please stop by-- have a steamin' cup o' joe -- and enjoy the artwork. The food is spectacular-- and they are so friendly. There is even a DRIVE THRU!

DECOR Magazine- Norway

DECOR Magazine in Norway published a nice article on my work this month. The magazine is a wonderful compilation of art and artists at work.

Margrete Tennfjord, Editor of DECOR Magasinet did a tremendous job with the layout and photoshopping the images. The paintings are vivid and the presentation is superb. The text is in Norwegian -- but some English too.

I am so happy to have been included- Thank you Margrete.

Pick up a copy if you live in NORWAY!

Old OLD work-- watercolor

I went to my son's college yesterday-- Principia College... for Parents' Weekend. In the lobby of one of the buildings is a painting of mine from 1977. I graduated from the same school... and won the "art award" that year. My painting was purchased for part of the permanent collection.

I still like it... it's soft and reminiscent of some of the ideas i was trying to grasp in painting.

Hey Babyers- watercolor

Painting from the GOOD GIRL/ BAD GIRL show from 2006. I finally got around to photographing it for my book. I still like it after all these years~!

It has an edge... a surliness to the gals... an irreverence of spirit --

a message that captures the change of roles in today's adult female --

you GO girl!

Napa Palm- Acrylic

This acrylic was produced a few years ago for a show about Napa Valley. I have since added other layers and depth. The vertical format is especially striking ... when it's in the gold frame.

The palm has a majestic and calming presence.

Mari Rockett

My dear friend Mari Rockett passed on last Friday, March 13. She was co-owner of the Dragonfire Gallery in Cannon Beach, OR where I exhibited. http://www.dragonfirestudio.com/

She and her partner, Eeva Lantela developed a wonderful gallery of artists. I became good friends with both of them over the years- along with several of the artists.

Mari had a depth, fire, and understanding of the arts -- that wove together a tapestry of creative energy that spoke to all. Her soul was deep and her spirit unwavering. She picked each artist to exhibit after thoughtful consideration ... and was loyal to their representation in her region.
The Dragonfire Gallery is a testament to her dedication and love of all the arts. It became the most respected gallery in Cannon Beach -- and I was so honored to be included.

I will miss working with her... but I am grateful for the time and friendship we had.

I love you Mari and will miss you. Safe passage~

***

There will be a ceremony of Mari’s life at DragonFire Gallery on Friday, March 20 at 3pm followed by
a bonfire. Mari had a great affinity for the element of fire. It was her wish to have a bonfire ceremony as
a way of thanking and giving back, of celebrating and marking the reciprocal experience of this life.
Mari visited Ecola State Park almost daily so we hope to have the fire there. If that is not possible, it will be
on the beach…so bring appropriate layers.

Thank you all for your emails and calls. Each message adds a layer to the tapestry of love that
surrounds Mari’s spirit. We are indeed all blessed to have had this lovely woman in our lives as supporter,
teacher, and true friend.

In lieu of flowers, Eeva requests that donations be sent in Mari’s name to
The Clatsop County Animal Shelter (1315 SE 19th St., Warrenton, OR 97146 503-861-0737).

With much love,
Eeva, Marsha, Cathy & Lotte

Looking Inside/Looking Outisde- acrylic

almost done with this painting.. promise!

i keep revisiting this painting... i don't know why... perhaps it represents a challenge!

however.. i really like it now.. and am glad that i stuck with it.

i plan to have it photographed professionally.. so that all the sides of the painting are in focus. my digital camera can't seem to do this.

so... here's to persistence!

Coconut Grove Art Fair

A hot day.... like summer.... at the Coconut Grove Art Fair in Coconut Grove Florida. You really couldn't imagine how much art and craft! The art was everywhere... and the crowds were huge.

We got there early -- which was a very good thing-- because it was easy to walk and see the work.

The beaded sculpture was the BEST OF SHOW -- and i enjoyed this work a lot.

I couldn't quite tell if there were a lot of sales-- but it seems as though not many people purchasing work.
But the quality of work was good... and we had a great time looking :-))

Art Center of South Florida- Miami Florida

This art co-op on Lincoln Road in Miami Beach was outstanding. It's a grouping of art studios available for inexpensive rent on the most fashionable of streets.
It's a wonderful place for artists to network and gain traction in their work, careers, and vision. There's an exhibition space for rent.. and even an "in house" art supply store! How cool is that??

A jewelry lab, a photo studio, sculpture... and classes. It was so wonderful to see.

I would love to jury into this to gain an introduction to the art community here.

I went to see the other art co-op -- the BAKEHOUSE in the Wynwood District of Miami. This co-op is even larger -- with 70 artists studios, two exhibition spaces, outdoor foundry, off street parking.. and much more

What a terrific way for artists to work side by side-- network and gain traction in a community professionally.

I was most impressed with the quality of work and the surrounding facilities of both.

This may be a good way to integrate into the area professionally!

Tom Seghi Studio- Miami Beach

My visit today... to Tom Seghi's studio was awesome. He was a St. Louis artist- who left the Midwest to come to Miami Beach 20 years ago. He's highly successful and exhibits and sells internationally. I was so impressed with his studio and home -- and accomplishments. I knew him back in the 80's when we were both early career artists. His web site: http://:www.seghi.com will give you a brilliant overview of his work.

He was very helpful in giving me a practical guide to integrating into the Miami art community.

Thank you TOM!
