Chinese Lanterns! Watercolor finally finished

So... finally finished the Chinese Lanterns. It took about 6 months in all.... since I didn't complete it this summer as planned.

Added the red tassles and wires in the lanterns for details.

I like the painting.... There were many struggles in learning to paint such foreign imagery for me.

I loved them in Los Angeles Chinatown... and now they are here!

  3. Absolutely beautiful!! Those red tassels are just add so much to the painting. Do you use masking fluid, it didn't look like it in your wip pics.

  4. Beautiful painting, Carol. And your new banner at the top of the blog just is so gorgeous! Rainy day with fall really coming (cooler weather, rain, leaves blown off the trees); and thoughts of winter won't get me down because I have your February workshop at Cedarhurst to look forward to!

  5. This is an awesome painting - the variety of colors really catches your eye. Putting those wires in had to take so much time but it was worth it - it adds so much. I love it!

  6. THank you Carrie.... the tassles were the last thing to add. I did use masking fluid on them...to keep them white. but.. .i forgot to take it off for months...and ended up scraping every last bit with a knife. yuck. I shall never do that again! Hope to meet you someday.

Rhonda!! So happy to hear you're coming to the Cedarhurst workshop! It will be fun. I will be staying over night there too... so we can go out to dinner some time. New sunflowers was a fun painting for me to paint.

Thank you Barb, the last few bits of the Lanterns was a journey. It was one of the hardest paintings I've done in a while. Neverthelss... fun to do.. and fun to see. It's a lighthearted subject for sure!
