The goal was to challenge, break, and expand the boundaries of contemporary American watercolor.</div><div><br /></div><div>We had a wonderful time getting to know each other. Mark Maheffey, Kathleen Alexander, Keiko Tanabe, Rosie Maheffey, Tom Alexander had a great day!<div><br /></div><div>The White House... of course... was exceptional. We even saw Geitner walk into a meeting with Secret Service following. Very impressive!</div><div><br /></div><div>We learned that Dolly Madison saved the unique portrait of George Washington from fire in 1812.. when the British burned down the White House.</div><div><br /></div><div>After the tour-- we had lunch at Old Ebbits Grill -- famous for their crabcakes.</div><div><br /></div><div>Then... we walked Pennsylvania Avenue towards the National Gallery.</div><div><br /></div><div>We toured the West Wing-- and saw Da Vinci, Rembrandt, and so many masters! It all kept me so busy-- there was little time to spend on the computer.<div> <br /></div><div>Needless to say-- it was a FANTASTIC time! </div><div> <br /></div><div>There were 14 students from ALL over the world-- Norway, India, Malta, Sweden, USA.</div><div> <br /></div><div>We all got along famously-- and painted furiously.</div><div> <br /></div><div>Our hosts-- Bill and Corrine from <b><i>LeVieux Couvent</i></b> -- put on an amazing visit. They cooked French feasts for us EVERYDAY! Each meal was more spectacular than the next!</div><div> <br /></div><div>The food was from the region-- grown locally and prepared fresh. The fruit was outstanding.</div><div> <br /></div><div>What a perfect mix of painting, inspiration, food, wine, touring, imagery, countryside, weather, beauty, light.</div><div> <br /></div><div>I have NEVER had a more perfect workshop! There were only 6 pigs in the Pig Pavillion -- because it was the summer of "swine flu." The farmers were worried that people wouldn't come to the fair -- if they bought their prize-pigs in for show. It was a silly knee jerk reaction to the epidemic... but understandable.<div><br /></div><div>The lonely pig was so beautiful-- I just had to paint him!</div><div><br /></div><div>The other day -- I painted a smaller version of him -- PIGET. I needed something to add to my Washington DC exhibition... and since magnolias are every where there-- these seemed appropriate.</div><div><br /></div><div>Do you like 'em?</div><div><br /></div><div>I do. Each blossom has unique characteristic and beauty. The darker the green background-- the lovlier the pearly white blossom becomes~</div><div><br /></div><div>I used only two colors in the blossom itself-- <i>Daniel Smith</i> Quinacrodone Burnt Orange and <i>Holbein</i> Lavender. Oh yes, there is a touch of <i>Winsor Newton </i>Aureolin occasionally.</div><div><br /></div><div>The Lavender is my NEW favorite pigment! It has weight and punch -- while being delicate at the same time.</div><div><br /></div><div>Love it!</div><div><br /></div><div>Buy some to try for sure.</div><div><br /></div><div>I plan to do more in this series - larger ones. A wonderful assemblage of many voices and views.
