I have been traveling in Hong Kong-- to visit my son, teach a workshop, and gain new inspiration. It is so overwhelming here! I love it!

The city is a mixture of antique and modern, heat, humidity, humanity, commerce, energy, vitality, international folks, food, smells, joy, tradition, future.

I am in love with HONG KONG!

So... for the next few days-- I will be intoxicated with new imagery and inspiration.

The door to the future opens in Asia!

Tomorrow... we leave for Thailand... a whole new experience.

A wonderful evening... full of fun, bugs, laughter, and good cheer! WE had an amazing turnout-- despite the wicked weather.

The rain couldn't keep people away. Thank you to ALL my very good friends and clients who came anyway! Love you all.

There were 107 small INTRUDERS-- 9 big INTRUDERS.... a beautiful children's book, 16 beautifully designed wallpapers with insects, note cards, designer TEES.... a huge array of celebration!

Not to mention-- over 60 paintings sold.. and tons of books and tees....

Thank you thank you everyone...for making my special evening a success!

I have finished the portrait for the GROWTH SERIES of Evan -- who turned 27. This was the first year I was a little late in painting his portrait. but-- I DID get it done!

I'm about to go visit him-- and I will gather new information to do his 27th portrait during the coming year.

A new triptych for the small INTRUDERS show. It didn't make it to framing stage-- but I will include this beautiful triptych anyway.

The monarch was particularly fun to paint. I believe it shows a freedom and splash that could only be achieved after painting 200 other bugs!

There's no way I would have painted this as simply and directly as it is-- without all that other foundational understanding of all the other bugs.

Viva la insects!

I am finally rounding down my series on bugs. There's only a few more to do for Crate & Barrel-- then I stop.

It's been a good run.. and I've had a super time with all that it's lead me to do.

I have loved making the book, the note cards, the lapel pin, the mini-moo cards, the poster, and working with PaperPaintPress on the wallpaper, and with Anne Taussig on the TEES.

What a super opening we will have next Friday!

BIG LADY and BIG DRAGON have been added to the series of BIG INTRUDERS. They are all currently at the framer's.... getting their final coat of frame for presentation.

The BUG GRID was up to 8 paintings... although only 5 will be shared at the small INTRUDERS exhibition. I will include the other 3 as matted.

The bigger bugs are more arresting in character-- and draw your attention to the drama of the bug-- more than it's preciousness.

So excited to get ready for the show!

Don't forget to come next Friday May 3. ALL ARE INVITED.

Big Intruders are making their way into the upcoming show. I have been working on a series of 8 larger watercolors for the small INTRUDERS show. I will chose the best of 5 to be in the exhibition.

It's definitely a race to the finish!

One more beetle.. and one more butterfly are in the works. So far.. I like these four.

I haven't posted much the last few days---- I'm getting ready for my small INTRUDERS show.

There is a lot of marketing and other responsibilities involved.....

But... I have been working on 5 large watercolors for the show. They will form a cryptic multiple painting seen above.

Please let me know what you think.

Each panel will be sold separately [or together]... but each will be individually painted and framed.

The concept and title is JOURNEY. It's a reference to the journey the bug goes through in his life- as well as the journey I've been through in documenting these wonderful creatures of the bug kingdom.

APA FUNDRAISER in ST LOUIS-- BIG KITTY!

I was invited to paint BIG KITTY for a fundraiser for the APA [Animal Protective Agency] here in St Louis.

The sculpture was huge and a challenge to paint.

It will be displayed this summer--- after receiving a concrete base and plaque-- at BUSCH STADIUM in St. Louis at one of the home games.

At some point-- it will be auctioned to raise money for the APA.

I love animals.. and I have adopted two kitties-- one for the APA and one feral.

We need to do all we can do to help animals who can't find a home.

One of my artist-students who recently took the ST LOUIS workshop- send me this painting she did after the workshop.

It is a tour-de-force example of what I was striving to teach! The "glow" and backlighting to each watercolor.

This particular student was stimulated and inspired in such a great way! So happy and grateful to see the paintings that others produce after a workshop.

Please send them to me-- those of you who have taken my workshops. I would love to share, and post here... and revel in your victories!

I just had to do another IRIS for Spring! The large scale watercolor relies heavily on complimentary colors for punch.

It was a joy to paint-- and fun to pull together.

It is monumental in scale and really lives up to it's title!

I haven't posted much on the blog this week-- because I was super-busy with a workshop last weekend at MARYVILLE UNIVERSITY.

It was a glorious weekend of painting with some new friends and old!

The workshop was FULL to capacity -- with over 22 students--- painting and splashing... and producing great work.

LOVE it ALL!

In fact... I LOVE TEACHING!!

There will be another workshop soon... the next one is in DOOR COUNTY WISCONSIN.

Come and join!

Thank you to everyone who came to learn my technique of painting. There were students from California and South Carolina.

I enjoyed every minute.

A Visit to my Studio

Guess who stopped by my studio the other day for a look?

I met a new friend-- and enjoyed sharing with her the development of my work over the years.

The swimmers were of particular interest-- and the one above was her favorite.

It is always a lift to share my work. I never get tired of it... and it always brings some new insight to me about which direction I'm going in.

I hope everyone gets the chance-- every now and again... to share their work!
