Maryville University PAINT Exhibition

My students in the beginning and advanced painters class at Maryville University held a 3 day exhibition of their work starting Tuesday.

It was a smashing success!

We prepared our classroom to look like a gallery --- and hung the work with nametags. It was wonderful.

Invited guests and food, music provided a festive atmosphere. So many compliments and well wishers.

I was so proud of them~!

Maryville painters rock!

Stop by tomorrow if you have time.

Gator almost Done!

Working on the gator today --- along with rain, lightening, and thunder.

These rainy wet days make for perfect watercoloring weather...

It has taken a different direction than I thought... but I am beginning to really like it.

It's darker and more for-boding than I originally intended.

Perfect swamp gator! They have a creepy ominous quality when you see them in the swamp.

Gator Progress

The GATOR got more work today.. It's going down in value and becoming darker and richer.

I want to make him moody and swampy ... so that it evokes a sense of tension and stare.

Alligators in the Everglades were mesmerizing to me. I want to portray that same sense of awe and observation when I paint them.

This is my first attempt.

Although it has gone differently than I thought-- I'm beginning to like this painting.

Italy Suite

These two lovely paintings were sold today from The Italian Suite exhibition. One is going to Maine, and one is going to St. Louis.

Of course I am thrilled and happy that they are ending up in collections and appreciated.

I saw the show one last time today-- before it is taken down next week. As always... it was/is beautiful -- and I'm so happy that I got the chance to display the collection.

Thank you Cedarhurst!

Gator Progress

I have been workin' the GATOR today .... trying to flesh out the images and values to make it work.

It's slow-going... but worth it.

It is about half finished...

Any thoughts for titles????

Recent Watercolor- Virgin Islands and Everglades

Now that Italy is done -- I have FINALLY been turning my attention to watercolor and new subjects.

My work on the Everglades is starting to begin again-- GATOR!

I am trying to finish the work on my beloved Gator painting. It's slow going.. because I don't know what I'm doing! I haven't painted watercolor in a while ... so learning the nuances again has been tough.

I have also worked on two images from the Virgin Islands. I want to do a few paintings on that subject to send to my gallery there-- MANGO TANGO.

The rooster is a wild one -- from the beach on St. Thomas. The birds are everywhere!

The school of fish is also fun to paint.

Glad to be back on my home turf of watercolor. I shall be working this medium for the next few months.

Getting Ready!

One of my advanced watercolor students is getting ready for her Senior Show at Maryville University.

She has painted a tremendous amount-- along with the other 3 seniors who are having their exhibitions this spring too.

I am so proud of their work -- and all of them as emerging painters.

It has been a pleasure and honor to work with them.

Congratulations to all!

Beginning Watercolor Class visits my studio!

Yesterday the beginning watercolor class from Maryvillle University visited my studio.

It was a wonderful time to share all my work with them.

They were attentive and patient.

Such a great group of painters...getting ready to complete their final project.

Big Gator

Here's a better digital of the GATOR painting I'm working on.
He's not more completed than the last time I photographed him.... but it is a clearer, more color-true image.

I look forward to finishing him soon...and moving on to the next.

So far.... I like the way he's progressing!

Stay tuned for more gator.

Gator!

Here is the newest watercolor... straight from my palette to your door!

I am finally painting the GATOR from the Everglades!

I have been wanting to paint a gator since last spring.

I want to show the moumentality of the reptile.

So large, handsome, and fierce!

This watercolor captures some of the essence I have been searching for....

Let's hope I continue the momentum with the Everglades work now ....
