How Sweet the Sound

here are the final 3 sketches for "how sweet the sound" commission. these were drawn after i attended THE ROCK church in st. louis -- with photographer Ray Marklin. He made incredible photos that i could work with .

the service was incredibly inspiring and invigorating. all the parishioners -- and choir members made me feel so welcomed and included

after another round of review -- the committee chose the last sketch. i will begin developing that into a 4' x 3' watercolor tomorrow.

Sketches for Commission

I've been working on a commission-idea these last few days-- and this is what I've come up with. The project involves a gospel choir.. and all the energy that goes along with singing.

I submitted the images and am awaiting the response.

Hey Babyers- watercolor

Painting from the GOOD GIRL/ BAD GIRL show from 2006. I finally got around to photographing it for my book. I still like it after all these years~!

It has an edge... a surliness to the gals... an irreverence of spirit --

a message that captures the change of roles in today's adult female --

you GO girl!

Napa Palm- Acrylic

This acrylic was produced a few years ago for a show about Napa Valley. I have since added other layers and depth. The vertical format is especially striking ... when it's in the gold frame.

The palm has a majestic and calming presence.

Mari Rockett

My dear friend Mari Rockett passed on last Friday, March 13. She was co-owner of the Dragonfire Gallery in Cannon Beach, OR where I exhibited. http://www.dragonfirestudio.com/

She and her partner, Eeva Lantela developed a wonderful gallery of artists. I became good friends with both of them over the years- along with several of the artists.

Mari had a depth, fire, and understanding of the arts -- that wove together a tapestry of creative energy that spoke to all. Her soul was deep and her spirit unwavering. She picked each artist to exhibit after thoughtful consideration ... and was loyal to their representation in her region.
The Dragonfire Gallery is a testament to her dedication and love of all the arts. It became the most respected gallery in Cannon Beach -- and I was so honored to be included.

I will miss working with her... but I am grateful for the time and friendship we had.

I love you Mari and will miss you. Safe passage~

***

There will be a ceremony of Mari’s life at DragonFire Gallery on Friday, March 20 at 3pm followed by
a bonfire. Mari had a great affinity for the element of fire. It was her wish to have a bonfire ceremony as
a way of thanking and giving back, of celebrating and marking the reciprocal experience of this life.
Mari visited Ecola State Park almost daily so we hope to have the fire there. If that is not possible, it will be
on the beach…so bring appropriate layers.

Thank you all for your emails and calls. Each message adds a layer to the tapestry of love that
surrounds Mari’s spirit. We are indeed all blessed to have had this lovely woman in our lives as supporter,
teacher, and true friend.

In lieu of flowers, Eeva requests that donations be sent in Mari’s name to
The Clatsop County Animal Shelter (1315 SE 19th St., Warrenton, OR 97146 503-861-0737).

With much love,
Eeva, Marsha, Cathy & Lotte

Women's Health Partners

Here are a few watercolors of the work that's hanging in the WOMEN'S HEALTH PARTNERS. A doctor's clinic for women in St. Louis. They leased these paintings.. and over time the collection became their own.

I have heard from many people over the years about seeing the work. It was/is a very visible location.

This is only a small sampling of what is in the office. There are over 11 pieces.

Acrylics from the past

These two large scale acrylics are hanging in my friend's business.

She bought them from me years ago... as they were done in the 80's and 90's.

I don't work on this scale anymore... but it's really wonderful to see previous work that still appeals to me!

Looking Inside/Looking Outisde- acrylic

almost done with this painting.. promise!

i keep revisiting this painting... i don't know why... perhaps it represents a challenge!

however.. i really like it now.. and am glad that i stuck with it.

i plan to have it photographed professionally.. so that all the sides of the painting are in focus. my digital camera can't seem to do this.

so... here's to persistence!
